Hey Buddy!
This blog post is going to help you with CELPIP Speaking Task 2, describing a personal experience!
Task 2 asks you to tell a short story from your own life — in the past tense, using past tenses. The trap here? Test-takers ramble. They jump between ideas and run out of time before making a point. You need a simple storytelling structure: set the scene (when, where, who), describe what happened, and finish with how you felt or what you learned.
Task 2: Checklist
Here is a simple checklist to keep you focused:
Task 2: Questions
Here are 10 practice questions in the real exam style. You have 30 seconds to prepare and 60 seconds to speak — that is shorter than you think, so practice keeping your story tight.
The Questions
Talk about a memorable trip you took. Where did you go, who were you with, and what made it memorable
Talk about a time when you helped someone. What did you do, and how did it make you feel?
Talk about your first day at a new job or new school. What happened, and how did you feel?
Talk about a celebration you will always remember. What was the occasion, and what made it special?
Talk about a time when you learned a new skill. What did you learn, and how did you learn it?
Talk about a time when bad weather ruined your plans. What were you planning to do, and what happened instead?
Talk about a meal you will never forget. Where were you, and what made it so unforgettable?
Talk about a time when you lost something important. What was it, and what did you do?
Talk about a teacher or mentor who influenced your life. Who was the person, and what did you learn from them?
Talk about a time when you received good news. What was the news, and how did you react?
